I grew up in a hockey locker room with a bunch of macho jocks, so yoga was always portrayed as something just for chicks. Even when I was first introduced to yoga in a Human Kinetics class at UBC back in 1998, I joined in with all the rest of the sex jokes to relieve my insecurities.
After many years of growing up, and meeting some amazing people, my eyes were finally opened wide. Yoga was definitely something that I took for granted. This year, I finally swallowed my pride and I used Bikram Yoga to heal a torn MCL. What an experience! Not only was it helping me strengthen my knee, but I couldn't believe the little connections that were popping up all over my life. It was like a little hidden secret to life!
I'm choosing Bikram Yoga over other forms of yoga because of the intensity. I've never felt such an acceleration of learning and healing at the same time.
